are those fishes the famous Poi? or is it Koi.. not so sure but these colorful fishes are so lovely, a pink or yellow colored aquarium or pond will fit these candy creatures.

the fishes are called " Nishiki - goi ." ( you were right, koi is correct. )
why they were at the shrine because it was " Nishiki - jinja shrien ."
we can see carps in Japanese ponds and also carp streamers round here at the moment. because it is for children's festival.
